Castles & Lakes of Bavaria with a day ticket to Oberammergau

Led by Paul Thompson from Henbury and Brentry Travel Group

From May to October 2020 the villagers of Oberammergau in Bavaria will again perform their world famous Passion Play — a tradition they have maintained since 1634.

The performance involves over 2,000 villagers, a full orchestra and a vast stage, and commemorates Christ’s journey into Jerusalem, his death and his resurrection.

We combine this remarkable experience with two different holidays — the fairytale settings of Bavaria’s castles and lakes and the natural wonders of the Austrian Lake District.

For more information about any aspect of the holidays or to discuss taking your group on their own exclusive tailor-made Passion Play tour, call us on 01629 826531.

Timetable

Day 1 – Fly to Germany

We meet at London Heathrow Airport for our direct scheduled flight to Munich where we are met by our tour manager who will accompany us throughout our tour. We then transfer in our private executive coach to the 3* Hotel Kolberbräu in Bad Tölz (or similar) for a six night stay on a half board basis

Day 2 – Herrsching am Ammersee & Andechs Abbey

This morning we travel to Herrsching am Ammersee for our included cruise on picturesque Lake Ammersee. In the afternoon we travel on to the gorgeous hilltop monastery of Andechs. Founded in the 10th century, Andechs Abbey has long been a place of pilgrimage with relics reputed to come from Christ’s crown of thorns, and a victory cross of Charlemagne, whose army overran much of Western Europe in the 9th century.

Day 3 – Munich & Nymphenburg Palace

We enjoy an included walking and coach guided city tour of Munich this morning taking in sights such as Michaelskirche, built by Duke Wilhelm V for the Jesuits who arrived here in 1559, and the Frauenkirche, completed in 1488 and one of Southern Germany’s biggest Gothic structures. This afternoon we visit the Baroque Nymphenburg Palace, the summer residence of the Bavarian monarchs. Our visit takes in the ‘Gallery of Beauties’ commissioned by Ludwig I, the former bedroom of King Ludwig II and the impressive banquet hall with fine ceiling frescoes by Johann Baptist Zimmerman.

Day 4 – Oberammergau Passion Play

This morning we travel by coach to the village of Oberammergau and after free time for lunch, we take our Category 1, or Category 2 seats for the Passion Play. The performance runs from 2.30pm till 10.30pm with a three hour interval for included dinner. After the Play finishes, we transfer back to our hotel.

Day 5 – Bad Tölz

The day is at leisure at Bad Tölz.

Day 6 – Starnberg

Today we visit Starnberg, located on the northern tip of Bavaria’s second largest lake. The day is at leisure and on an individual basis you may choose to enjoy a cruise on Lake Starnberg.

Day 7 – Fly home

We leave our hotel and travel to Munich Airport for our direct scheduled flight back to London Heathrow.
