This holiday offers the dual attractions of both East Devon and West Dorset, taking in both coastal and inland walking.
This holiday offers the dual attractions of both East Devon and West Dorset. We have chosen two beautiful walks in the Sidmouth area that combine coastal and woodland walking. In Dorset we have chosen a picturesque circular walk inland from Lyme Regis and a contrasting coastal walk to give you the chance to enjoy the spectacular views from Golden Cap, the highest point on the South Coast. Each walk is about 6-8 miles and includes one or two ascents and descents of up to 200 metres. Over the four walking days you will enjoy a variety of coastal, rural, riverside and woodland landscapes. Everything is comfortably timed for your enjoyment. Full rambling gear including waterproofs and boots are required.
Day 1 : We walk up the west side of Sidmouth via Bulverton Hill to Keble’s seat Muttersmoor for spectacular views over the Otter Valley. We then join the coast path at High Peak and follow this westwards to Ladram Bay. We then go inland via fields and country lanes to Otterton . Transport back to hotel.
Day 2 : Transport to Lyme Regis. We follow the River Lim inland to Uplyme and Ware. We then take a high circular route back to the coast, descending via Ware Cliffs to the famous Cobb and harbour. Transport back to hotel.
Day 3 : We walk from our hotel and follow the coast path up Salcombe Hill to the east of Sidmouth. We enjoy the magnificent views before making inland to Weston and the Donkey Sanctuary. We then re-join the coast path at Dunscombe Cliffs before returning to Sidmouth via the picturesque village of Salcombe Regis and over Salcombe Hill by a different route.
Day 4 : Transport to Charmouth. We walk eastwards via Stonebarrow Hill and Chardown Hill to Golden Cap. We return westwards along the coast path to Charmouth. Transport back to hotel.
