Bakewell

Bakewell is a small market town in the Derbyshire Dales, well known for the local confection Bakewell Pudding(often mistaken for the Bakewell Tart). It is located on theRiver Wye and has interesting shops, cafes and buildings. Many circular walks are start at Bakewell and the town is ideal for an afternoon of strolling.

Chatsworth Estate

A full day can be spent at the Chatsworth Estate with so much to see and do. Chatsworth is a stately home in theDerbyshire Dales, It is the seat of the Duke of Devonshireand has been home to the Cavendish family since 1549.The house, set in expansive parkland and backed by wooded, rocky hills rising to heather moorland, contains a unique collection of priceless paintings, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculptures, books and other artefacts. Chatsworth has been selected as the United Kingdom's favorite country house several times.

To add to the Estate, there is also a Farm Park for the younger visitors, farm shop, garden centre and the extensive grounds which you share with sheep and deer.

Eyam, the plague village!

A traditional English village that lies within the Peak District National Park. The village is noted for an outbreak of bubonic plague which occurred there in 1665, in which the villagers chose to isolate themselves rather than let the infection spread. With a visitor centre, Eyam Hall (National Trust property) and quaint village lanes this is an idyllic place of interest. Many of the old cottages have plaques on showing the plight of those in the village during the time of the plague.

Heights of Abraham

A fun day out for everyone! And it starts on a cable car

Heights of Abraham is a major attraction in Matlock Bath, only a few minute’s drive from Willersley Castle it consists of a hilltop park on top of Masson Hill, accessed by Cable Car from the village. The route is 568 metres (1,864 ft) long and climbs 169 metres (554 ft).. Once on the hilltop there are cavern and mine tours in both Great Masson Cavern and the Great Rutland Cavern, play areas, a visitor centre, stunning views, fossil factory and much more.

Castleton

A pretty village with stunning views, interesting gift shops and a visitor centre. This is an ideal starting point for a day’s walking on the High Peak, routes up Cave Dale,Winnats Pass, Mam Tor and Hollins Cross meet near Castleton. While there, there are four "show caves" to visit (one of them by boat) and at least one of them is open all year. Take a look at our guest information in reception for leaflets.

Buxton

Buxton is a spa town close to the county boundary withCheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south, and is described as "the gateway to the Peak District National Park". Home to Poole's Cavern, an extensive limestone cavern open to the public, and St Ann's Well, fed by the geothermal spring bottled and sold internationally by Buxton Mineral Water Company. Also in the town is theBuxton Opera House, which hosts several music and theatre festivals each year. With a range of shops, beautiful grounds with Victorian Pavillion and Buxton Crescent it makes an enjoyable and varied day out.

Dovedale

No visit to Derbyshire is complete unless you have taken to the stepping stones in Dovedale, take the day to enjoy the town of Ashbourne before parking at Dovedale and taking an enjoyable flat walk along the dale. Stunning scenery on a riverside walk and the fun of hopping over the stepping stones before heading back. For those more energetic there are many popular marked walks that surround Dove Dale.

Monmouth

A beautiful market town with a bustling center, it contains many independent shops and a small museum to the Rolls family who have been affiliated to the town for many decades. It is situated where the River Monnow meets the River Wye, within 2 miles of the border with England.

Tintern Abbey

The Cistercian abbey of Tintern is one of the greatest monastic ruins of Wales. It was only the second Cistercian foundation in Britain, and the first in Wales, and was founded on 9 May 1131 by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow. It soon prospered, thanks to endowments of land in Gwent and Gloucestershire, and buildings were added and updated in every century until its dissolution in 1536.

Lydney

A small town and civil parish in the county of Gloucestershire. It is located on the west bank of the River Severn, close to the Forest of Dean. The town lies on the A48, next to the Lydney Park gardens with its Roman temple in honor of Nodens.

Hereford

A beautiful and historic city, here lives the Mappa Mundi, the oldest map of the world, which lies in the safety of the glorious Hereford Cathedral that is in the heart of this very rural city. Nestled well into the Herefordshire countryside where often one sees tractors driving along the city streets, this is definitely a city for the country dweller.

Gloucester

This beautiful city has much to offer in ways of interest. The beautiful cathedral set in the ancient cathedral precincts. The Waterways Museum, near to the docks, which has recently undergone a huge transformation. There is also a small military museum dedicated to the Gloucester Regiment, which is well worth a visit too.
